I definitely was intending to write much earlier in the week but, alas, it escaped and here it is Friday already! This past Sunday I did a "Laurie special" and drove up to Rhinelander for a day and a night and returned to Cross Plains on Monday. Although I prefer staying at least 2 nights for a visit, I couldn't because I had a First Aid class on Tuesday. School resumes for me the day after Labor Day, so who knows when I will have time to sneak away from work again.
Anyway, I had a really great visit with mom and dad. Sunday afternoon they convinced me to go out and help pick apples with them and it was really fun! Talk about a ton of apples too (actually we only picked about 67 lbs.)! Prior to this harvest, mom and dad had picked a huge bunch of apples and mom made several pies. She gave one to me to take back to Cross Plains and I have to say, I haven't had an apple pie like that good in a long time! It was better than what we sell at the restaurant in the autumn. Yum yum yum.
I brought Mingo and Roxy along and they were the happiest dogs ever. They love running around freely, going for long walks, and receiving all the attention from mom and dad. Here, Roxy is nibbling on an apple.
Sunday afternoon was truly one of those very rare perfect-weather days in Rhinelander. It was very beautiful and we enjoyed being outside.
Here are a couple pictures of a wasp nest close to mom and dad's house. Look carefully, you can see a wasp in the entrance!

Laurie:
Great pictures from up north last Sunday. Love the black and white shots also. Next year yes, we are kidnapping you and Mark to the game if we can. I knew you wanted to go on Friday when you called me as I was boiling the brats. Looks like a beautiful weekend and hope you are busy @ the restaurant. You know it makes me happy when your restaurant is busy as I have always wanted my own business as well. Maybe someday I will own my own small spot if I move with John after he becomes the bigshot professor, haha.
Hope your holiday weekend is a good one!

Laurie,
We just went to Rhinelander, too, and were sent home with a bucket of apples. I tried one today and must say they taste a lot better (less sour) than our apples. I'll definitely have to make a pie, though, because I don't think we can eat them fast enough.
